Heritage Trail Community Gardens

All Garden Plots are Reserved for the 2026 Season

Community Garden Plots are available in several Zionsville parks for annual membership at a rate established by the Zionsville Board of Parks and Recreation. A $25 deposit is collected during registration and may be forfeited if a plot is neglected, abandoned or not maintained according to the Community Garden policy. 

This program is intended to promote health, environmental stewardship, gardening hobbyists, and community engagement while ensuring safe, equitable, and well-maintained public spaces. Plot holders are assigned a garden plot for their personal enjoyment and responsible for the upkeep and care of the assigned plot(s).

Garden plots are available in the following sizes:

Elm Street Green
  • Traditional 20’ x 20’ plots
  • Traditional 10’ x 10’ plots
  • Raised 4' x 8' plots

Heritage Trail Park

  • Framed 12' x 12' plots
  • Framed 4’ x 8’ plots 
  • Raised 4’ x 8’ ADA-accessible beds

Gardener Responsibilities
  • Community garden plots will be available each spring for use on or about April 1st.
  • Plot holders may begin to utilize their plot(s) once numbered stakes marking plot boundaries are in place (spring till will be completed as conditions allow).
  • Garden plot holders are responsible for the care and maintenance of any suppression options utilized and should keep mulch uniform and weed free, and/or fabric carpets/plastics secured and intact.
  • Do not throw litter or refuse into the compost corrals or elsewhere in the garden area.
  • Security is not provided at the community garden sites. Signage is posted to discourage activity, but vandalism, theft, or wildlife interactions may occur, especially during harvesting season.
  • Plot holders are responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and aesthetic condition of assigned plots. Neglected plots may be cleared and/or re-rented if a plot holder does not take appropriate action within two weeks of notification from the Department.
  • Water Faucets & Hoses- Water faucets and hoses are a shared resource at the community gardens.
  • Each garden plot is designated with a numbered corner stake or additional boundary marker. Please keep plants within your plot.
  • Garden plot holders may continue to garden in the off season but must remove all materials by December 31st from their plot(s) unless they plan to renew membership the following year.
  • Plot holders must notify the Department if they wish to ‘opt-in’ to the fall till and have their plots prepped for tilling by October 31st
  • Plot holders must notify the Department by December 31st if they wish to reserve their assigned plot the following growing year
  • Plot holders must have their plots free of all organic and inorganic materials by December 31st if they do not wish to garden the following growing year

Deposit Information
A $25 refundable deposit is due at the time of reservation for all garden plot holders and reflected in the price per plot. If a plot holder wishes to reserve their plot the following year, the deposit can be retained for the next registration season. This deposit will be returned unless, the Zionsville Parks and Recreation Department must clear a plot due to lack of upkeep or the plot is not cleared by December 31 if not renewing for the next calendar year.
